DESCRIPTION:Jazz in The Showbar – Sarah Bolter & Rob Palmer\nSarah Bolter- Vocals/Saxes/Clarinet & FluteSarah began performing at just 11 years old\, making her solo debut on clarinet with the Johnny Howard Big Band at the Bournemouth Pavilion. By 13 she was playing most weekends with the New Dorset Dance Orchestra\, and at 15 joined her first original band\, spending school holidays recording and guesting on albums at Arnie’s Shack studio. Sarah studied at Southampton University\, specialising in jazz alto and classical soprano saxophone\, and formed her band Not Just Sax\, which has released six albums\, the most recent produced by Derek Nash. She later formed Sarah Bolter & Sax in the City\, performing widely across the UK and at leading London venues. Alongside her bands\, Sarah works as a freelance session\, pit musician and teacher\, performing at major festivals\, theatre productions and on numerous recordings. \nRob Palmer – guitarGuitarist Rob Palmer has toured and recorded with pianist John Law\, saxophonist Jon Lloyd\, Soft Machine saxophonist Theo Travis and Jamiroquai keyboard player Matt Johnston. In addition to this he has toured with USA jazz singer Lila Ammons and rising sax star Tom Waters. Our version imagines a sea of simple clay figures — each one shaped by the hands of its maker — coming together as a collective artwork. \nEveryone is invited to take part and contribute! Drop in\, make your own clay figurine\, and add it to the growing installation. Whether you’re a confident maker or trying clay for the first time\, your contribution becomes part of a shared creative moment. \nWith simple instructions\, this is for everyone. \nThe completed Purbeck Field will be exhibited in a special installation on the evening of Sunday 31 May from 6-8pm. \nHelen Leary is a Purbeck-based creative with a BA (Hons) in History of Art and an MA in Exhibition Studies. Maybe you had your first date tucked away in the back row of the stalls\, waited nervously backstage for a school performance\, or danced your heart out as part of a local troupe. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a holidaymaker who visited once upon a time\, so many of us have memories old and new\, tied to this building. \nSome of you may even remember the original Mowlem Institute\, long before the theatre we know today was built. \nCome along\, have a chat\, and tell us your stories. We’ll be recording memories to feature on the Purbeck Sounds history show and working with The Mowlem to develop them into something even bigger. \nAbout Cathy: \nCathy Phippard presents H’our Local History on Purbeck Sounds.
