SUMMARY:Swanage Literary Festival: Felice Hardy - The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis
DESCRIPTION:Swanage Literary Festival: Felice Hardy – The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis\nFelice tells this remarkable\, moving story of escape and survival. \nIn 1930\, her grandmother\, Liesl Herbst\, was the Austrian National tennis champion.  In 1939\, her grandparents and mother escaped from Nazi occupied Vienna to London. On arrival they were initially stripped of their Austrian passports and rendered stateless aliens\, but both Liesl and her daughter Dorli competed at Wimbledon. They remain the only mother and daughter team to play doubles together at Wimbledon. The book also explores the terrible fate of the family they left behind. \nIt is as much a search for the author’s own identity as for her own children and grandchildren to ensure that their remarkable family history is never lost again. \nTickets £5 (+booking fee)Day tickets also available at https://themowlem.com/event/swanage-literary-festival-saturday-full-day-ticket/ \n 8 November\n @\n2:15 PM\n –\n3:15 PM \nBooking Fees Apply \n \n Book Now\n \n\n	« All Events\n \n \n\n	Categories:\n Talk \n\n	Related Events\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n Damien Lewis – SAS Escape Stories	\n\n\n	18 September @ 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n Swanage Literary Festival: Friday Evening Ticket	\n\n\n	7 November @ 6:25 PM – 10:00 PM \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n Swanage Literary Festival: Words to Inspire Poetry Workshop	\n\n\n	7 November @ 6:30 PM – 7:15 PM \n\n\n\n	\n	Add to calendar	\n \n	\n \n\n\n	Google Calendar\n\n\n	iCalendar\n\n\n	Outlook 365\n\n\n	Outlook Live\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Swanage Literary Festival: Emma Simpson – Breaking Waves	\n\n\n	\n Swanage Literary Festival: Joanna Quinn – The Whalebone Theatre

DESCRIPTION:Click here\n \nSwanage Literary Festival: Joanna Quinn – The Whalebone Theatre\nJoanna will be here to discuss her award-winning\, debut novel ‘The Whalebone Theatre’\, which explores themes of courage\, family\, self-discovery and the impact of war.It is the story of an old English manor house on the Dorset coast with crumbling chimneys\, ivy clad walls and a library full of dusty books and the children that live there. \nThe story follows the family’s history between the two world wars from 1919 to 1945 and is the story of a theatre being made from a whale’s ribcage when it is washed up on the beach. It recounts how the children bring the theatre to life\, educating themselves through reading and their own life experiences. \nAs the children grow into adulthood and WW2 arrives they find themselves with different dramatic roles to play…\n \nTickets £5 (+booking fee)\nDay tickets also available at https://themowlem.com/event/swanage-literary-festival-saturday-full-day-ticket/ \n \n8 November\n@\n2:30 PM\n–\n3:30 PM \nBooking Fees Apply \n\nBook Now\n \n« All Events \n \nCategories:\nTalk \nRelated Events\n\n\n \n\nDamien Lewis – SAS Escape Stories \n18 September @ 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM\n\n \n\nSwanage Literary Festival: Friday Evening Ticket \n7 November @ 6:25 PM – 10:00 PM\n\n \n\nSwanage Literary Festival: Words to Inspire Poetry Workshop \n7 November @ 6:30 PM – 7:15 PM\n\n\nThe Studio \nThe Mowlem \nSwanage\,\nEngland\nBH19 2AD\nUnited Kingdom\n+ Google Map \n\n01929 422239 \nView Venue Website \n\n\n\n\nAdd to calendar \n \n\nGoogle Calendar\niCalendar\nOutlook 365\nOutlook Live\n\n\n\n\nSwanage Literary Festival: Felice Hardy – The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis \n\nSwanage Literary Festival: Steve Couch & Olly Hopper-Pay – Dead Man Singing

SUMMARY:Making A Killing (14+)
DESCRIPTION:Making A Killing (14+)\n The ropes are ready\, the crowd is waiting\, and the hangman has a new apprentice. When Claus Kohler is apprenticed to Frantz Schmidt\, Nuremberg’s seasoned executioner\, the two men are thrown together in a world where duty\, morality\, and power collide\, and every decision leaves a mark. But as the gallows fill and suspicion takes root\, their fates become dangerously entwined\, until both must decide who they are\, and which side of the rope they stand on. Performed by just two actors\, Making a Killing is a razor-sharp\, dark comedy about justice\, corruption\, and the cost of survival in a world disturbingly like our own. Bold\, biting\, and impossible to ignore\, the play takes inspiration from The Journal of Master Franz Schmidt\, Public Executioner of Nuremberg\, 1573–1617. A remarkable historical record that lays bare the humanity and contradictions of a man who killed for a living.  \nRunning Time: 1 hour and 50 minutes (Not including Interval)Suitable for ages 14+ (Contains mature content) \nPlease note that our lift will be undergoing maintenance for this show and will not be available to use \nTickets £18\, Friends £16\, Under 18 £10 (+booking fee) \nPLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE LIFT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT \n 12 November\n @\n7:30 PM \nBooking Fees Apply \n \n Book Now\n \n\n	« All Events\n \n \n\n	Categories:\n Play \n\n \n The Mowlem \n	\n\n \n 01929 422239 \n \nView Organiser Website \n\n \n boxoffice@themowlem.com \n \n\n	Related Events\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n Cabaret with Claus (14+)	\n\n\n	12 December @ 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n The Invisible Man	\n\n\n	Fri\, 24 April\, 2026 @ 7:30 PM \n\n\n\n \n The Theatre \n	\n\nThe Mowlem\n \n Swanage\,\n	England\n	BH19 2AD\n	United Kingdom\n\n\n	+ Google Map \n\n \n 01929 422239 \n \n\n	View Venue Website \n\n\n\n	\n	Add to calendar	\n \n	\n \n\n\n	Google Calendar\n\n\n	iCalendar\n\n\n	Outlook 365\n\n\n	Outlook Live\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (PG)	\n\n\n	\n Swanage Record Club
