DESCRIPTION:Mowlem Big Weekend – Art Café: Purbeck Field\nInspired by Antony Gormley’s Field \nPurbeck Field takes its inspiration from Antony Gormley’s 1993 artwork Field\, first created with communities and shown at Tate Liverpool. Our version imagines a sea of simple clay figures — each one shaped by the hands of its maker — coming together as a collective artwork. \nEveryone is invited to take part and contribute! Drop in\, make your own clay figurine\, and add it to the growing installation. Whether you’re a confident maker or trying clay for the first time\, your contribution becomes part of a shared creative moment.  \nWith simple instructions\, this is for everyone. \nThe completed Purbeck Field will be exhibited in a special installation on the evening of Sunday 31 May from 6-8pm.  \nHelen Leary is a Purbeck-based creative with a BA (Hons) in History of Art and an MA in Exhibition Studies. She has led a range of children’s workshops in The Mowlem Studio and brings a warm\, welcoming approach to creative participation. Helen will be facilitating the Art Café Purbeck Field drop-in sessions and curating the final installation in the Studio. \nThis Big Weekend event is free to attend. An art activity suitable for all ages and low cost to increase access. Andy shares his professional marker pens with everyone to try drawing as an activity and also his experience as a Purbeck artist since 2017. From £0.50 each\, come and draw. \nAndy is a retired geography teacher whose art journey started because of his personal mental health and seeking a distraction from working in 2015. In 2017 he set out to find out if his art would sell locally. In 2026 he is still selling art but also encouraging others to try art using easy to access tools – fine liners and marker pens. He doesn’t teach art skills but shares his enthusiasm and range of ideas with all takers. Hosted by All Sort’d\, Sing and Sign is a warm\, friendly session where little ones can explore songs\, actions\, and simple signs that help them communicate long before they can talk. Expect gentle music\, playful interaction\, and plenty of smiles. \nPerfect for babies and toddlers\, this 30-minute session is relaxed\, welcoming\, and designed for grown-ups to join in too. Whether your child is brand new to signing or already loves a sing-along\, everyone is invited to take part. \nAllsort’d C.I.C are a not for profit company supporting and facilitating activities that promote work\, leisure and independence in the Purbeck community for people with additional needs. Their intergenerational choir of 50 members\, based in Swanage\, meets once a week to learn signing and songs in a fun and relaxed environment to entertain and show case the talents of all it’s members! \nSuggested donation of £6 per child (includes £1 booking fee). DESCRIPTION:Mowlem Big Weekend – Fisherfolk and Merfolk Puppetry workshop (Age 0+)\nJoin the Crooked Timber Theatre in this Fisherfolk and Merfolk Puppet-Making Workshop’.  \nCrooked Timber Theatre was set up by Gemma Khawaja to create and tour innovative children’s puppet theatre drawing on traditional stories and local heritage. Gemma is an accomplished performer and workshop leader specialising in children’s theatre and puppetry. She has over 20 years of professional experience touring to venues\, festivals\, rural settings and schools nationally performing in puppet shows produced by leading companies such as Norwich Puppet Theatre\, Horse & Bamboo Theatre\, Little Angel Theatre. DESCRIPTION:The Whispering Dome\nThe Whispering Dome is an award-winning concert-adventure that follows a single nightingale on her epic migration from the UK to The Gambia. Blending early and contemporary music with immersive multimedia projections\, the performance imagines the human music rising from the lands she flies over – from medieval Europe to North Africa and West Africa. Five exceptional performers draw on European early music\, Moroccan Gnawa Sufi traditions and West African Griot song\, weaving ancient love songs\, pilgrims’ tales\, bird songs and new choral works into a rich\, border-crossing sound world. DESCRIPTION:Jazz in The Showbar – Sarah Bolter & Rob Palmer\nSarah Bolter- Vocals/Saxes/Clarinet & FluteSarah began performing at just 11 years old\, making her solo debut on clarinet with the Johnny Howard Big Band at the Bournemouth Pavilion. By 13 she was playing most weekends with the New Dorset Dance Orchestra\, and at 15 joined her first original band\, spending school holidays recording and guesting on albums at Arnie’s Shack studio. Sarah studied at Southampton University\, specialising in jazz alto and classical soprano saxophone\, and formed her band Not Just Sax\, which has released six albums\, the most recent produced by Derek Nash. She later formed Sarah Bolter & Sax in the City\, performing widely across the UK and at leading London venues. Alongside her bands\, Sarah works as a freelance session\, pit musician and teacher\, performing at major festivals\, theatre productions and on numerous recordings. \nRob Palmer – guitarGuitarist Rob Palmer has toured and recorded with pianist John Law\, saxophonist Jon Lloyd\, Soft Machine saxophonist Theo Travis and Jamiroquai keyboard player Matt Johnston. In addition to this he has toured with USA jazz singer Lila Ammons and rising sax star Tom Waters.
