Communications and Marketing Coordinator

The Mowlem is a performance and cinema venue that occupies an unparalleled beach side location in Swanage, Dorset. It has been an enduring cultural and community resource for the people of Swanage for over 160 years and is currently undertaking an exciting period of development.

We are seeking an organised and experienced Communications and Marketing Coordinator to assist the Mowlem in the implementation of all communication and marketing activities, working closely to increase brand awareness and drive customer engagement. This is a new role and the successful candidate will be expected to review current practice and produce a communications and marketing strategy that aligns with our Business Plan and emerging branding guidelines.

Job Type: part-time, permanent, to be available and able to work flexible hours. This will be a hybrid role, the expectation that you will work at least 50% of the time at the Mowlem Theatre.

Hours: 15 hours per week at £12.50 per hour (days and times to be agreed upon).

The post will be subject to a 3-month probation review and after this an annual performance review.

Person Specification – applicants will:

  • preferably have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field.
  • be able to work on their own initiative and support the Mowlem administration, the Mowlem programming and marketing committee and the Operations Manager as well as working with volunteers. 
  • be able to express themselves clearly in both verbal and written formats.
  • have extensive  experience of running social media accounts for a business, charity or brand and can demonstrate growth over time.
  • be a competent wordsmith and enjoy creating engaging, fun content.
  • be interested in theatre, cinema, the arts or other community events.
  • have had experience of working with video, photo and design software such as Canva and Photoshop and enjoy designing leaflets, posters and other promotional materials.
  • have had experience of event planning and marketing events.
  • have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • have had experience with WordPress or other online website builders.
  • be proficient with Microsoft Office programmes.
  • be highly organised with strong project management skills and attention to detail, including spelling and grammar.
  • have their own laptop or PC up to the task.

Job Description

  • Working and collaborating with existing social media volunteers to ensure we schedule engaging, easy-to-read social media updates for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter promoting our complete program of live shows, movies and community events
  • Writing a monthly ‘What’s On’ update for the local press, charities, community groups and newsletters.
  • Adapting the ‘What’s On’ Update to create visually appealing newsletter updates to subscribers at least monthly
  • Using our Premium subscription to Canva, create digital artwork and printable assets for use in and around the building, the website, newsletters and social media (as required).
  • Designing a revised monthly program leaflet in collaboration with the Programming team
  • Working with external partners, production companies and local businesses to ensure the agreed-upon marketing and promotional activities are delivered on time.
  • Maintain the internal marketing assets folders for use across the organisation. 
  • Working alongside our Administrator, ensure informative and engaging descriptions of upcoming movies and live shows are added to Ticketsource (our ticket platform), including sourcing official digital assets (pictures and videos) to accompany your carefully crafted text.
  • Keeping the website updated
