The Auditorium

The Mowlem’s 380-seat auditorium is a versatile, professionally equipped performance space spread across two levels, with stalls and circle seating.

Featuring a large proscenium stage, a full complement of in-house drapes, professional lighting and a high-quality sound system, the auditorium is equipped to accommodate a wide range of performances and events. Our experienced technical team ensures the space is maintained and operated to a high professional standard.

The Mowlem has a vibrant programme of community, amateur and professional productions throughout the year. We are proud to host Swanage Drama Company’s annual pantomime, as well as musicals from The Swanage School and Swanage Musical Theatre Company.

Comedy is also a major part of our programme, with leading performers appearing throughout the year, including Jack Dee, Maisie Adam and Shaun Walsh.

The auditorium plays host to a variety of festivals and cultural events, including Swanage Jazz Festival, Summer of Music and Purbeck Film Festival. We also welcome professional touring theatre, with a particular focus on high-quality productions for children and families.

Cinema

The auditorium also features a state-of-the-art cinema system, allowing us to present a carefully selected programme of films throughout the year. Alongside our bespoke in-house film programme, we screen National Theatre productions and other major recorded performances, bringing world-class theatre and entertainment to Swanage.
Events, Conferences & Rehearsals

The auditorium is also available to hire for events, conferences, performances and rehearsals. With its professional facilities, flexible stage and seating arrangements, it provides an ideal setting for a wide range of activities.
